Recognised Prior Learning

Recognised Prior Learning is one of those terms that many people ask us: what does it really mean? And often, it is associated with an acronym: RPL.

Do you ever get frustrated with acronyms? Well, we do and so here's the real story behind the question we get asked all the time: what is RPL?

RPL is an acronym that is used by universities, TAFEs and Private Registered Training Organisations to refer to Recognised Prior Learning or sometimes, Recognition of Prior Learning, or Skills Recognition.

What recognised prior learning means is that you are actually asking to be assessed based on the knowledge and skills you possess instead of sitting exams, submitting assignments or returning to the classroom.

You can have acquired these skills and knowledge from a range of experiences: from volunteer positions, from paid employment, from previous training,.

Generally, these are skills and knowledge that have been gathered through real life experience and application, rather than learning that has been gleaned sitting in a classroom. RPL acknowledges what we all know to be true: nothing beats experience!

The challenge lies in understanding what evidence you need to produce to support a Recognised Prior Learning application. A good Registered Training Organisation (RTO) will talk to you about your experience and identify when you have sufficient experience to complete all or some of a qualification through RPL.

At Churchill Education, we always look at the true value of your experience, skills and knowledge to translate this into credit for an RPL application. We do the academic paperwork for you and work with you to guide you in collecting the evidence that supports your application.

So, put simply Recognised Prior Learning is your ticket to making your experience work for you to get you the piece of paper that says you are a skilled and knowledge person - no matter what you call it!

TESTIMONIALS

"Cheers David, I am really enjoying the training sessions, and having you as my Trainer. You have the uncanny ability to obtain information from all of your students. Also your excellent general knowledge has been a great help not only to me but all the class. "
Gregory Martin

"Thank you for all your help you have given to me over the past 4 months I don’t think I would have finished my course if it wasn’t for your support and teaching skills. The text book you gave to me was amazing and covered even more than I expected and feel like I have more to learn and look forward to doing another course in the future. I also wanted to thank Catherine and Kerrin as they were both fantastic in the beginning and enjoyed working with them too."
