Learning about Leadershipjuly 27, 2011 03:47pm Where do you go to learn about leadership? Who doesn't love a good list?july 27, 2011 03:47pm Seriously, there's nothing like a good list for making you feel that life is under control, that all things are marching along to the Grand Gates of Success, and that you can still get your ducks in a row ... or your list in chronological order. Of course, there's also nothing like a list for making you feel like you're a dismal failure ... all those single entries, mounting up to stare back at you when you don't get them done. But this is about great lists for business .... and particularly, our favourites focusing on colleagues and customers. First things first - colleagues. The team on your business bus are so important because no team on the bus means no customers. So, I was checking out Seth Godin's blog and couldn't resist sharing this list: Simple five step plan for just about everyone and everythingThe number of people you need to ask for permission keeps going down: 1. Go, make something happen. 2. Do work you're proud of. 3. Treat people with respect. 4. Make big promises and keep them. 5. Ship it out the door. When in doubt, see #1. We've been talking with our team about owning your seat on the bus. NOTE TO SELF: Go, make something happen. Loving it! Doesn't seem to get much simpler than a 5 point list. Well, not much simpler until you read Stew Leonard's 2 point list ... Simple two step plan for every customer you have, now and in the futureRule #1 -- The Customer is Always Right Rule #2 - If the Customer is Ever Wrong, Re-Read Rule #1 So, if you are talking to any of our team from Train to Succeed, you'll know that they're going to make something happen for you and your professional development needs ... recognition of prior learning credits for your life skills will never be this easy. And even better, at least while you're our customer, you'll always be right. Not sure that will hold up with your partner though ... Col Russell talks about RPLmay 23, 2011 02:49pm Col Russell recently took some time to tell us a little about his background and how he used it to obtain the qualification he needed ... a Diploma of Occupational Health & Safety with Churchill Education. This qualification launched Col into the new job he was chasing. Listen to Col's story to hear how Recognition of Prior Learning made a difference to Col's experience ...

0 comments | Comment Only a small part of the whole story...march 28, 2011 09:12am "Make no assumptions. Be humble." This is one of the principles we've been learning in Ari Galper's 'Unlock the Game'. It's a hard one, isn't it? Harder than it looks. One of our trainers is writing a book on expectations, on the premise that expectations are a constant presence in our lives. Hand in hand with that is that we approach each day with assumptions ... and we approach each other with assumptions. In the assumptions, we don't always give each other the credit for all that we've achieved and for our uniqueness. We assume that the person standing before us is what we see ... but in fact, it is a small portion of the whole person. It is really what training organisations should be all about ... not assuming that someone is not worth a qualification because we encounter them outside the 'classroom' ... and it is where other RTOs fail to give their customers a real solution. Assume nothing - ask for the story behind the person, the experience, the skills, the knowledge. Only then can you really know and understand the problems and give them the right information to help them determine if this is going to be the right fit for them. It's a good thing to learn to make no assumptions - ask the question, and wait for the answer... The stories you'll hear will humble you... Culture Vulture - Moments of Truthjune 25, 2010 09:46am Each month, we focus on a different Culture Vulture point to continue to fulfill our mission. 0 comments | Comment Business balance?june 08, 2010 11:14am With End of Financial Year rapidly approaching, life seems to have taken on a slightly more frenetic edge! And we love being busy but it makes everyone start to look at their time management. Diaries are looking full, things are scratched out and moved around, and sometimes it would be nice to stop for a moment to enjoy the ride. That's probably why this clip from a presentation at Tedx Sydney by Nigel Marsh, best selling author of "Fat, Forty & Fired" hit home for us ... looks like dress down Friday might have been busted wide open. We loved his point about going to work to do a job you don't like ... and the need to take control of designing your own life, instead of allowing someone else to design it for you. We really enjoy when customers come to us with their wealth of experience and have made a decision to move on, move up or give themselves the recognition that experience deserves by obtaining qualifications through recognised prior learning (RPL). It's great to be a part of that process of going after the ideal job, the ideal lifestyle. But it's even better to hear back from our graduates who tell us what they've managed to do with their qualifications ... land an attractive overseas job, get a promotion, change careers. It's what keeps us working here, and loving the ride. Being a part of the recognised prior learning (RPL) process is about helping people realise their potential. Maybe it's time for you to make the changes to give you the lifestyle you really desire. Watch Nigel Marsh's clip for a little inspiration!
0 comments | Comment Going paperless!may 30, 2010 08:02pm Recently, we shared in our news bulletin a top list of tools for running a paperless office. We'd been using most of the tools for some time but there was one we were just trialling. Traditionally, we've sent out our Agreement for Services to start obtaining a nationally recognised qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning as a MS Word document, that was then printed by the client, signed and either faxed/posted/scanned and emailed back. We wanted to make it so much simpler and Echosign seemed like a good starting point. Basically, we've been able to upload our Agreement for Services, and then our customer can sign it on line, immediately submit it back to us and both the customer & our team receive a PDF version of the signed agreement ... all done online without a pen in sight. So far, our trial has been given a big thumbs up by our customers & our team. Beautifully simple and fast! Our signing time has gone down to 4.7 minutes ... and we love anything that makes the experience of our customers easy and unique ... that's why we're committed to turning customer's life skills into a nationally recognised qualification without any jumping through hoops or churning out mounds of paperwork. It was great to find a paperless tool that can honour this commitment to all aspects of the Recognition of Prior Learning process with Train to Succeed. You can try it out for a free demo. We couldn't resist trying to sign using the mouse ... clearly, we're not very talented when it comes to churning out a signature with a mouse. Thank goodness there's the option to let Echosign churn out the signature from you typing your name. Anyway, if you give it a go, let us know. We'd love to hear your feedback. Go on, get signing! |
